Fire Season is Here, Help Prevent.

Hello to all Prophet River Band and Community Members.

With support from Chief, Council and CAO

Effective at 12:00 (noon) Pacific Daylight Time on Thursday, March 28, 2024, Category 2 and 3 open fires will be prohibited across the entire Cariboo Fire Centre region. This prohibition includes the Cariboo Chilcotin Forest District, the 100 Mile House Forest District and the Quesnel Forest District.

Prophet River First Nation is within the Cariboo Fire Region and these Restrictions apply to our area as well as surrounding areas.

I would like to take the time to inform everyone to be aware that we are in fire season and deemed at high risk to having wild fires started quickly.

As PRFN residents reside in Northern B.C and are under an “active fire ban” right now. PRFN is currently at drought code level 5 which is considered high risk. PRFN requests that we have no camp fires, burning of any brush or yard fires of any kind. PRFN members are subject to receive large fines for not abiding by the fire ban restrictions.

With parts of the Donnie Creek wild fire still burning from 2023 around the Klua lakes and surrounding areas it is important that we all do our part to ensure the safety of our community as well as wildlife and forestry.
