Position Summary
The Activities Coordinator develops and implements fitness and recreation activities for the Prophet River community. Â The incumbent creates and delivers activities for members of all ages to maintain and improve their health and wellness.
Primary/Core Responsibilities
Learns and performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Prophet River First Nation policies, standards, practices and procedures, as directed by the Director of Health and Wellness. Â
All employees are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and ethical manner that respects and promotes the cultural values of Prophet River First Nation.
Recreation and Fitness Programs
- Coordinates the schedule of recreational activities and events targeting all groups within the PRFN community (i.e. children, parents, youth, elders, members with disabilities).
- Develops and communicates a program schedule of varied gym activities, team sports, and special events.
- Seeks feedback and ideas from members for future programs and activities. Maintains open communication with members.Â
- Looks for new resources/ideas to improve indoor and outdoor programs. Â
- Collaborates closely with other Health and Wellness team members in developing new programs and activities as well as special community events.
- Works with community members 1:1 and in groups to instruct them how to safely use and care for gym equipment. Ensures members use equipment properly and safely.
- Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the gym facility and equipment. Ensures proper security procedures are followed in opening and closing the facility.Â
- Leads the set-up and tear down of equipment for various activities.
- Signs members in/out when participating in activities or using equipment and ensures their safety while participating in activities.
Administration
- Prepares an activity schedule and works with the Director of Health & Wellness to budget for any associated costs.Â
- Develops promotional strategies to maximize participation in various fitness activities and events.
- Maintains equipment inventory and ensures equipment maintenance requirements are met.Â
- Maintains records and activity reports related to programs and events – i.e. participation, feedback from participants, summary of costs etc.Â
- Provides input and recommendations with regard to existing or proposed programs.
Other General Duties

Please note that your obligations of confidentiality will continue indefinitely, including after separation of employment.
- All employees are expected to display and promote a genuine respect for Prophet River First Nation culture and protocols.
- May work with the Health & Wellness team to run activities and events in other program areas. May provide back up to other programs as required during vacation or leaves.Â

Qualifications
Training, Education and Experience
- Grade 12Â
- Prior experience working in a recreation or fitness program.
- Experience working with or within an Indigenous community.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
- Level 1 First Aid and CPR.
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License (this may not be necessary)Â

- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good client services skills. Friendly, positive, responsive, professional and helpful.
- Ability to design, deliver and assess effective recreation programing for people of all ages.
- Physical fitness at a level to lead various sports and recreational activities.
- Ability to promote and market programs and events to maximize participation.
- Ability to facilitate group activities as well as working with individuals one to one.
- Patient, with the ability to show compassion and understanding.
- Professional with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Basic computer and administration skills.Â
- Able to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision as well as working within a collaborative team framework. Able to encourage, foster and model cooperative approaches for the well-being of the Prophet River community and our members.
- Ability to demonstrate and promote a genuine respect for Prophet River First Nation culture and protocols.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in the Prophet River gym, Health Centre, and other community settings. Flexibility to work a varied schedule including evenings and weekends.
