Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Operations and Maintenance, the maintenance worker is responsible for general maintenance of all buildings, grounds, equipment, vehicles, roads, etc. In addition, this position oversees all activities for the water treatment and pump house, including operation, sample testing, recording of operational data. This role is also responsible for supporting members through landscaping, fencing, repairs, and servicing as required.Â
Primary/Core ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Ensures timely completion of work requisitionsÂ
- Conducts routine inspections of administration, school, beaver inn, two shops, grey watershed, water tower, sea cans, lagoons and other PRFN buildings. Replaces parts or performs repairs as needed.
- Maintains upkeep of community grounds, including lawn cutting, trimming, weeding, pruning, watering, fertilizing, etc., during spring and summer months
- Maintains upkeep of community buildings and Elders homes
- In the fall and winter months, ensure all walkways and eavestroughs are free from debris, snow, and ice build-up daily before the office and school open for the day, as well as for the Elders homes
- Performs semi-annual Bleeding of fire hydrants
- Oversees summer students / temporary staff to perform general duties including landscaping, maintaining clean and safe Elder homes, garbage pickup, and general cleanup, etc.
- Before use, inspects all vehicles and equipment to ensure cleanliness, proper function, and safety
- Follows the preventative maintenance schedule for all vehicles and equipment
- Performs housing repairs and minor renovations as directed
- Conducts landscaping and general repairs of Elder homes.
- Conducts road maintenance and cleanup and mowing of road edges
- Oversees fueling stations to ensure proper operation and documentation, safety, and environmental compliance
- Conducts regular monthly inspections on generators to ensure satisfactory fuel levels, proper operation, and readiness in case of an emergency
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with staff and members
Water Tower and Pump House
- Takes weekly and monthly water samples, records data, and submits as per requirements
- Cleans and maintains water equipment and work areas
- Conducts regular inspections on water equipment, including pipes and pumps, and buildings
- Assists in troubleshooting mechanical issues, and repairs as directed
- Assists contractors as directed
- Ensures all practices are aligned with environmental laws and regulations
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Solid communication skills – (verbal and written) with the ability to converse with citizens and team members
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Â
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Mechanically inclined with the ability to operate and use a variety of tools and equipment.
- General maintenance skills, including basic grounds and landscaping abilities
- Ability to perform physical work including lifting, bending, and standing
- Work in a variety of environments and temperatures Â
- Strong knowledge of water management systems
- Ability to be on-call to assist with emergencies
- Strong safety focusÂ
- Basic proficiency using MS Word and Outlook
Training, Education, and Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience
- EOCP (Environmental Operators Certification Program) – Small Water System Operator Certification and Small Wastewater System Operator Certificate
- Class 5 driver’s licenseÂ
- Satisfactory Criminal Record CheckÂ
Working Conditions
- Work is routinely performed indoors and outdoors
