Spots open for Lands Department Training Program
Prophet River First Nation band members,
The Lands Department has lined up a training program for environmental monitoring work and all of our staff are attending. We have 15 more spots that we would like to fill up with members. All members who complete this training will be on our core list of environmental monitors and will be the people we call on first to do site assessments, wildlife surveys, and environmental work.
We haven’t had many members apply for the jobs that we’ve posted over the last year. If you have recently graduated high school or feel inexperienced but are willing to learn I encourage you to sign up for this training. You will be travelling back and forth and learning in Fort Nelson with a small group of PRFN members. I think people could help each other out and everyone who goes will do well. The Lands staff will also be going and I know they are willing to help those who are interested through the training as well. Transportation and meals will be provided and there may be a small allowance provided as well.
The dates are as follows:
- CORE (3 weeks) September 11- 29
- Week break
- Environmental Monitoring Coordinator Research (2 Weeks) October 9 – 20th
- Week Break
- Environmental Monitoring Coordinator Regulatory (2 Weeks) October 30th – Nov 10th
If you can only attend the core session let us know and we should still be able to accommodate. There will be some parts of the training that take place on the land.
This does not apply to Elders. Elders that would like are definitely welcome to take the training but they do not require the training to be on our core list of people we take out on site visits and monitoring. That said, it would be a benefit to other members to have some elders in the training so that they can share knowledge out on the land.
If you would like more information or would like to put your name in for this training please contact [email protected] and/or [email protected] If you do not have email please sign up at the Multiplex or the Lands building.
