Members of Prophet River First Nation and Neighbours,

Please be aware that there is currently an evacuation order issued for Fort Nelson, British Columbia due to the Parker Lake wildfire. The wildfire in the vicinity of Fort Nelson is one of 3 fires currently burning near Prophet River First Nation that we are monitoring in collaboration with other levels of government and stakeholders. Wildfires are also burning east of Klua Lakes and east of the Alaska Highway near Mile 209.

Our hearts go out to all those impacted by this devastating event. As a community, it is imperative that we come together to support one another during this challenging time. Prophet River First Nation is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our members and the broader community. In light of this, we have retained expert wildfire forestry consultants for urgent emergency planning. This will enable us to effectively navigate and respond to this situation and future emergencies of this nature.

We are actively collaborating with all relevant government agencies, local stakeholders, and BC Hydro on our wildfire emergency responses. By working together, we can optimize our efforts to mitigate the impact of this wildfire and ensure the safety of our community members.

In line with our commitment to support those in need and our traditional Dane-zaa values, Prophet River First Nation has opened our doors and are accommodating many of our neighbours and first responders in our community, including providing shelter in our gymnasium facilities. It is crucial that we extend our assistance to those who require refuge during this challenging time, in accordance with relevant evacuation orders.

I urge all members of Prophet River First Nation and others in the community to abide by all provincial and local evacuation orders. Your safety is our top priority, and it is imperative that we heed the advice of the authorities to ensure our well-being.

Additionally, I encourage everyone to be prepared to evacuate early if necessary, heading south to designated evacuation centers in Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, and Prince George. Early evacuation can save lives and prevent further harm. Together, we will overcome this adversity and emerge stronger than ever before.
